Baby shower question?

me and my boyfriend are haven a issue he wants his mom to throw me a babyshower but i dont agree with them because its not other ppls responciblity to buy things for our kid...its our job to make sure of that...i dont even want my parents to but i had to stop working till i have the baby so they are helping since we will be liven with my parents...but anywho how can i get it threw his think head that even if they throw a baby shower im not going because it is our kid i dont want to depend on other ppl getting these things for our kid see my family dont agree with babyshowers so it would just be his family and friends and that would make me feel bad
